HI , I am in Mexico and have a Honda Reflex scooter.......It went dead on me , and we charged the battery..... ......... . now where we connect the battery , there is a humming noise behind the dashboard speedometer, and it will not start....... ANy ideas. We are a long ways from a Honda dealer and would like to see if we can handle this .... Thanks

Humming noise may mean the battery is connected BACKWARDS - or got charged backwards!
Be sure the cable going to the FRAME (not red) is connected to the NEG (-) battery terminal.
Battery may be just too low. Try jumping to a NON-RUNNING car (with a 12 volt system - some OLD CARS have 6v).
Battery needs to read above 12 volts - with correct polarity - to start the scooter.
You don't need a HONDA dealer for these basics - if the above doesn't help, find ANY motorcycle repair shop - they should be able to deal with this.
Hope that helps

Does anyone know if the cheapo $55 battery works ok or is there any real benefit to buying the $120-$150 battery?

Will it work - yes.
Will it work as long as a more expensive battery - maybe, maybe not...
Cycle batteries can generally be "trusted" for about 3 years of use (if not run DEAD extensively) - beyond that is living on borrowed electrons...
Hope that helps

Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. OEM and likely the more
expensive 3rd party replacements have more cold cranking amps (CCA),
better quality housings, internals and connectors than the cheaper
batteries. My guess would be that in warmer climes, and with bikes
that are well maintained to run good, cheap batteries would probably
be OK. (But, who knows for how long though?) It's when alot of demand
is put on a less than adequate battery that they just don't do what
needs to be done nor do they last very long. YMMV

I bought my $70 battery at Batteries Plus - it was a gel cel, so I don't have to mess with electrolyte etc. It is the same brand and stock number as tho original - I replaced the old one because I believed that it was due for my '01. Checking the old battery - it looks to have enough life left to use as a spare.

BESTEM 2012 ---RED COLOR MATCH

I just recieved my Red Bestem 2012 case to mount on my Red 2001 reflex. I have not mount it yet, but I set it on the rack to get a visual. OMG did I get lucky...It looks like a factory color match ! The case looks like it came with the bike. Just a little FYI for anyone with a 2001 Red Reflex shopping for a case.
