Right. And that is why Helm Inc. has told me that there are NO LEGAL DOWNLOADABLE copies of their COPYRIGHTED material.

Unless your "Copyright/Tradesma rk" attorney has a relationship with Helm Inc., he really can't answer the direct question of ILLEGAL material from Helm Inc.

Most trademarks/copywrit e owners would rather have a fee paid to them for said manual or whatever because they not only get the fee for the copyright but for the printing cost etc.. I know in having a license to reproduce music does not cost much compared to what I can make in using that music for entertainment. Example; Elvis Presley could not have made the money he made or his estate makes today w/o not only owning the copyrights to his music, but, making agreements with publishers and other companies to reproduce the music. It's the same way with books, manuals , etc., etc.. When you pay $10.00 for a piece of sheet music, there is probably $2.00 of that that goes to the copyright/tradesmar k
owner. The rest goes to the publisher for the type setting, printing, shipping and advertising.

Hello Donald
The post was helpful and tks for posting.
I call Marc Parnes and after taking some measurements we agreed that
the model MS12 would work on the reflex and the scarabeo 250.
The shaft is 12 MM and comes with two universial cones. The reflex has a 12MM axle and cones will not be needed to balance front wheel.
I was impressed with Marc Parnes operation and he will make any cone
you need with no extra charge. MADE IN AMERICA

> Yep, I have the Marc Parnes balancer. I bought the universal because I also have a Honda Goldwing which requires the universal cone set. I did use it to balance my Reflex front tire and it did a perfect job. You cannot use the rod that comes with the balancer for the Reflex. The rod is too large in diameter to fit through the center of the Relex front wheel. I simply used the front axle of the Flex with the cones provided with the balancer placed on the axle. The cones keep the wheel centered on the axle, and even though the cones are slightly too big in the center, it worked perfectly! FYI, the Cycle Hill Manual Tire Changer has the same problem with the Reflex. The smallest rod they provide is still too large to fit through the front wheel. Again, I just used the front axle as a pivot point, but I must admit it was a bit short to make the manual tire change an easy one. I'll be looking for a suitable "longer" rod for the next change.
>
> BTW, all the bike shops around my area "will not" install a tire which was not purchased through them. And the nearest shops charge $35-40 to mount and balance a tire. I can buy tires online much cheaper than the shops so, Ergo, my own tire changing station came to be.....Also, you can buy the Cycle Hill Balancer for about $79 and it's probably just as good as the $105 Marc Parnes one. I'm not sure if you can use it with the front axle as I did with the Marc Parnes one because it has a fixed spacing between the bearings.

So as you can see, the publisher who has the license to the copyright of the Honda Service Manual for our Reflex has (once again) informed us that there are NO LEGAL ELECTRONIC COPIES of the manual.

The site that was linked in earlier posts (tradebit.com) has no mechanism (other than 'user agreements') to validate copyrights. The tradebit site relies solely on users to police copyright infringement. It is unfortunate that there are people on this list who insist on perpetuating the myth that ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS are ok.

What I would be interested in is if Steve's "coptwrite/trademark lawyer bro-n-law" (sic) contacted Helm Inc. and asked if any of the 5 different companies listed on tradebit.com had the electronic license for their Honda Service Manual.

Tradbit.com's tag is: "Upload.Publish.Sell". It is no wonder that so much copyright infringement is going on. They make extremely easy to sell ILLEGAL COPIES of copyrighted material.

I would be curious what HRCA has going on, as they give you access to it,
and to print it (and any other model honda you specify when you first pay
your year fee to them).

You must specify one model which you want access to the specific service
manual. You get one shot at this when you first pay them.

I don't recall anyone determining why it is that Honda Riders allows online
access to the manual, allows you to print it, and therefore you could
theoretically "download" it for a printed version. You have one year in
which to do so.

So, no, Ira, we did not discuss HRCA and what agreement they must have.
It's url is hrca.honda.com, so the previous poster's question about Honda
itself is in some way related to mine, concerning HRCA.

The rider's club is hosted on Honda's site, and it's as clear as night or
day, that if you pay them for a membership you have access to the manual
electronically.

I have a manual, so it's irrelevant to me either way, but saying I was
"curious" about what their arrangement must be certainly wasn't asked for
the sole purpose of you getting irritated over it.

Go for a ride or something, geez.

A great outcome!

#1 - You're safe!
#2 - You found the cause.
#3 - No expensive parts to replace.
#4 - The repair is easy.

It doesn't always turn out so well. I'm very happy that it did this time.

Happy spring riding!

[RE]Honda Reflex Group OT: Response from HELM Inc.

This just tells me that HELM does not offer an eletronic version of the manual. It may be possible that a legal eletronic version is available through a different source. The only way to be sure is to find the source of the electronic version and then determine from the copyright holder if said source is aurthorized to distribute same. But, in the scheme of things, WHO THE HELL CARES.

Good Afternoon,

Item/Part #: 61KPB06 only available in paper only.

Thank You,

I care.

You can't buy the manual in printed form from anyone other than Honda or
Helm. What makes you think that there is a LEGAL electronic copy available?
Even Honda (through their HRC) won't let you download the thing.

The many pdf copies that have flooded eBay and tradebit are just that,
COPIES of the PRINTED MATERIAL. Since it isn't Helm offering the electronic
version how could it be legal?

In my not so humble opinion, people who don't care about copyright also
don't care about following any other laws. If it's OK to STEAL someone
else's material, would it be ok for me to come to your house and take your
TV?

Ride Like The Wind

As a relatively new Reflex rider, my biggest concern so far is dealing with the wind. I've not fallen over, but the wind sometimes scares me. I've tried different strategies to deal with the wind, but I'm not comfortable with any of them.

Does anyone in the Group have any ideas about how to effectively deal with the wind?

Loosen up. The bike wants to go in a straight line. If it is blown over
some, it will want to correct itself. Let it. Don't try and force it.
Don't over-correct.

I was riding home from the valley the other day and my head kept tilting to
the left. Then I realized my head was being blown over. It was fun.

Yea, like Tim says. I know it's a bit scary until you learn that the bike
wants to stay upright. I remember during one of the cold fronts this winter
it was probably 50-60 mph gusts (enough that bales of hay were flinging
across the fields) It was also from the side, and not head-on or a tail
wind.

Those were the fastest gusts I had experienced and I ride alot. So even
seasoned riders know what you are talking about.

It becomes easier to deal with the more you ride and experience the wind.
As he said, loosen up, and don't over react, the machine really does want to
stay upright and go straight.

This may sound weird, but you have to force yourself to relax. Tightening your grip on the handlebars just exacerbates the problem. Much easier to say than to do! If the wind is severe, lean into it somewhat.

Yep, that's part of the joy of a really light bike and a short wheelbase. Add ground speed and the effects are worse. Physics.

Keep your usual grip on the bars but relax the upper arm and shoulders. With practice, you can even feel the relaxation into your upper torso as it will naturally shift INTO heavy wind gusts as the scoot tries to lean away. Net result, straight like an arrow.

And then there's BIG trucks! :)
