I think Joe's answer was quite helpful considering the circumstances. He took it literally that you hadn't ridden any two-wheelers before and if you haven't ridden a bicycle, you shouldn't get anywhere near the drivers seat of a scooter or motorcycle.

Not the most helpful answer of the group (and there were several very kind individuals out there) but by far the funniest! Yeah...I can ride a bike. (The training wheels are coming off soon.)

"New Gates Scooter Drive Belts Honda Reflex 250 PL30808"

I saw this listing on Ebay motors, Reflex 250 Gates drive belt PL30808.
Does anyone know if this is a viable substitue for the OEM?
It sounds "too good to be true", but some Gates belt do work on other
scoots admirably.

Bruce, Found a site that lists the size: Belts size - 906x22x30

How does this size compare with the OEM?

As little as $15.28 on Amazon. Order a couple and get free shipping.

Dunno... BUT a "CN-250" is a HELIX, not a Reflex, and they DO NOT use the same belt.

The "22" width is correct (stated in the service manual), but I don't know the other specs.

Does anyone have a NEW STOCK belt - if so, can you please CAREFULLY measure it for us?

I checked on the Gates Rubber Co. web site and they DO make a replacement belt for the Reflex:

http://tinyurl.com/2df4q5f
(I placed this link in the LINKS section)

The Honda part # crosses to the Gates part # PL30808 which THEY state is for the Reflex - so it should be OK. Gates makes quality stuff.

Many aftermarket belts have INFERIOR INTERNAL STRUCTURE and fail quickly (well documented in this group), and some have a narrower width. I doubt that this is true with a Gates product.

Beware of buying OLD STOCK - these rubber products have a useful life of about 6 years from date of manufacture - the "sale" may be old stock.

Thanks for the info!

After reading some posts in a Big Rukus group (which is a Reflex in wolf's clothing - same identical engine/drivetrain, I'm sorry to say since it is sold as a dual-sport off-road capable), it turns out that the Gates belt works, but is NOT IDENTICAL! - it is a bit narrower and shorter. Both off-the-line and top speed suffered.

The consensus there seemed to be that the stock Honda belt was still the best choice.

For what it's worth

On the Gates site:
http://www.gates.com/part_locator/reverselookup.cfm?requesttimeout=500 it
shows that the PL30808 fits the Reflex.

About to put my 4th belt in my '01, and have never had a failure using OEM
replacements. Even the OEM which I put close to 13k on is still
structurally sound, but narrowed. I change them at 10k now, as the extra
3,000 or so divided by the cost of the belt isn't worth a failure to me.

I know they are costly, but in my opinion, worth it. I sat on a big rukus
at the dealer on one of my tire trips, didn't ride it though. They seem to
be even rarer than the reflex. As someone else pointed out, Tony I believe,
dealers don't see reflex's or the ruckus very often, they just never give
any problems generally. This is what they told me. They were also
astonished at the amount of miles on my odometer, saying "only a honda".

One of the best and wisest posts I have read in our group!

Well said!

I really like this part:
"I learned that being self-taught meant I had a fool for an instructor"

So applicable to many areas in life!

Thanks for your valuable contribution.

Jim,

Did you call your credit card provider and explain the situation to them? Did you tell them that the supplier kept saying it was backordered and you never did receive the merchandise?

The bike is either a Roadmaster 250 Special Edition(the bags make it special?), or a Roketa MC-54B 250. A company named Family Motorsports Inc. sells the bikes. Also, FMI states in their FAQ section they stock parts for everything they sell. Now I don't know if that includes the saddlebags and mounting hardware. but here's a link to them:

Jim,

The way to protect yourself in the future is to not pay for anything not yet received. If an outfit bills your credit card before shipping and the bill comes due, just call them and advise them that they should charge that transaction back until the item is shipped and received.

ABS Repair

My 2001 Reflex had the front brake stiffen. Two different shops have told me the ABS needs to be replaced. The cost is $1,200 for the part alone. I don't understand this, since the difference in the ABS vs. the non-ABS models when I bought the bike was only $500.

Has any of you had the need to replace the ABS and what was the cost? Any guidance here would be helpful since this part will cost 1/4 of the original purchase, but substantially less than a new scooter.

Thanks for any input.

41k miles and not replaced the abs. Most shops know svery little about these scooters. Let's see if someone has an idea about what your problem really is.

Probably your area. Where are you located?

1500 is what I gave for my '01, so I wouldn't go lower than that.

That  is a very fair price.  Do you have it on Craigslist and most important do you have good large pictures.??   I sell many things on Craigslist  and they sell fast when I put up good pictures.   good luck    bigira

I was getting shell shock from the offers I was getting. Live in Pompano Beach, Florida. You can ride every day. Just don't understand why it hasn't sold
