Yes. That is why many of us on this list suggest riding with the high beams on ALL OF THE TIME.

I did it. An '05 in the garage!! So how do I ride it?

I bought an '05 Reflex and I'm so excited to hop on and twist the throttle! The only prob is that I'm a top heavy, 37 yr old that has never piloted a 2 wheeled vehicle. I'm close to Birmingham Al and would like some tips on safety classes or riding instructions. I'm really not trying to be a baby but I wanna have fun AND see my kids grow up. Any suggestions. PS mine has 3k miles on it. What is the longivity of these fellas? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!!!

Look for a MSF Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course. They'll let
you take it on your reflex (instead of one of their bikes) if you can show
that you have it insured, otherwise you'll need to take it on their provided
bike.

As far as longetivity, I am knocking on 46,000 and it's showing no signs of
engine wear whatsoever. You made a great choice.

I was in your exact situation 2 yrs ago when I bought my reflex... I had the advantage of living in a rural area where I could ride around safely til I got comfortable... Never took a riding course but I would recommend it... Think the biggest 2 tips I would give is keep lots of distance from cars in front of you, and just assume no one can see you...

Maybe I am taking your statement "never piloted a 2 wheeled vehicle" too
literally but maybe you should learn to ride a bicycle first.

Assuming Alabama is like most other states where a motorcycle endorsement is required on your driver's license for riding 50cc engine size scooters or larger, go to your nearest State DOL office and find out about taking the written MC test. After you've taken and passed this test, you'll get what amounts to an MC Learner's Permit. This entitles you to practice ride but usually in daylight hours only and without a passenger on the back. Then when you're feeling proficient and reasonably confident you can make an appointment to take the State's riding skills test. Or, before you pick up any bad riding habits by trying all of this on your own, Google "motorcycle safety classes" in your area and sign up for the full course (most have a separate scooter only class), spend a weekend or several week nights and get the benefits of professional instruction. When you've passed the course you'll be awarded a certificate of completion which you can proudly take to your nearest State DOL office and you'll get your MC endorsement on the spot with no questions asked. The class is well worth it as you'll learn a LOT of things, which you probably wouldn't have picked up on your own, and they're the type of things that will lead to a safe, enjoyable riding experience. So, have fun but above all, ride safe!

Not the most helpful answer of the group (and there were several very kind individuals out there) but by far the funniest! Yeah...I can ride a bike. (The training wheels are coming off soon.)

An '05 in the garage!! So how do I ride it?

Like most kids of the 50's, I learned everything by trial & error. Along the way, I lost some skin, burned myself a few times, hit my head a bunch, and accu, ulated a lot of bruises and scars.

When I was in my 20's, I wanted to learn to fly airplanes; it was then that I learned about professionalism and that many others have already figured out how to do "dangerous" stuff without getting hurt. There is no point in "re-discovering" what killed people back in the early days of aviation.

Similarly, when I wanted to learn to scuba dive, I took the appropriate classes and gained experience in controlled settings with adequate supervision.

Although I had been riding powered two wheelers for years, and even had passed the riding test in Connecticut, when I got my Goldwing I decided to start my professional education in riding motorcycles. During the basic riding course (given for free in Ohio), I learned that being self-taught meant I had a fool for an instructor. They will teach you the proper way to ride and how to "minimize" your risk. They will also tell you how most riders get in trouble and teach you the proper techniques to handle those very situations.

Take the course on their bikes and learn their techniques. Later, take the advanced riding course on your own bike. I did the advanced course on my Goldwing while attending a Goldwing Rally. I think today, you can take the advanced course on a Goldwing with your ridng partner on the back! You might as well practice how you ride.

The riding courses are much more than "how to ride", they teach the strategy of how to ride safely.

I second this advice... take the beginner course on their bikes because it really is quite easy to drop one the first time out, and you might as well drop someone else's bike rather than your own (the replacement plastics on these things arent INSANELY expensive, but I have a feeling you'd have to replace all the plastics to keep the colors matching, and that gets expensive quick). Also, it's a great way to learn how to ride a real motorcycle, and have that in your back pocket *juuuust in case* you ever want to ride one from time to time. Not to mention that some places make you jump through extra hoops to use your bike (Ohio makes you do some kind of extra safety inspection I believe).

I have a 2003 Reflex with ABS and 26,000+ miles. Wonderful, maneuverable little bike. I also have a 2003 Silver Wing with ABS and about 15,000+ miles. The SW is my highway bike when I go riding with my sons and son-in-law who have Shadow 1300's and one has a Harley Road King, but I prefer the Reflex for local running. Nice and light and so maneuverable. I've been off line for a good while so thought I better check and see what's going on here. By the way, I bought both the Reflex(in Mobile, AL) and the SW(in Jacksonville, FL) because they had ABS. Personally, to me, it was worth the wait to find them with this extra safety feature. I'm in southeast Louisiana.

Hi William,

Yeah, those saddlebags look cool, but I can't make out the name on the side of the bag. I could not find an exact match, but I did find something close. The bike is either a Roadmaster 250 Special Edition(the bags make it special?), or a Roketa MC-54B 250. A company named Family Motorsports Inc. sells the bikes. Also, FMI states in their FAQ section they stock parts for everything they sell. Now I don't know if that includes the saddlebags and mounting hardware. but here's a link to them:

http://www.family- motorsports. com/category_ s/117.htm

Almost makes me want to buy a Roadmaster SE, just to tear it apart and find out what is Reflex and What is not. That might be fun.

I had the same problem with another vendor whose name escapes me on some boots. The issued a check because of credit card rules they can't refund to the same card number automatically. I got the check; problem solved. What I also did, however, was notified my credit card company. They put a notice on the charge and amount. If you don't receive the check or it bounces, your credit card will get you your credit.

Jim,

Did you call your credit card provider and explain the situation to them? Did you tell them that the supplier kept saying it was backordered and you never did receive the merchandise?
