It doesn't.... except I use my Reflex to carry myself and my tuba to gigs.
How it also applies is for you (and anyone else out there who is annoyed) to
practice your selective reading habits.
If you see a message/post with a title that doesn't interest you, then by
all means ignore it please.

I have used UNI foam filter material. I cut out the pleated material from OEM filter and then put UNI material in its place.
Here is the material:
http://www.unifilter.com/online%20catalog/accessories.html

I use the green foam. lightly oiled.

Next time just clean it and put back in.
Been using it since dirt bike days. and have it in all my bikes.

K&N almost surely makes a fine replacement, hard to find in stores, recommend Bike Bandit online.

Missing Nut

So this morning I noticed a missing screw/nut on the right side of the
bike. I have no idea what this piece does. Any ideas?

I uploaded a photo of the missing the nut,

I plan on taking it to the shop at lunch to get the nut replaced. Could
this have happened when they replaced the back tire?

It's the parking brake lever/cable - and YES, it could have happened when the tire was changed.

Be sure to check for proper operation of the parking brake when the parts are reassembled.

Thanks Bruce, I rarely use the parking brake. Looks like all that is missing is the bolt, is that correct?

Check out modernvespa.com - there are a bunch of scooterists over there with tons of miles on them. There is a Piaggio mp3 with over 75,000 miles. Many have reported 50,000 plus miles. There is a bv200 like mine on the Yahoo boards with over 50,000 miles. The Italians make good scoots too. All the big brands do.

New to me 2003 ABS

Posted by: "delgotjunk" delenecon@hotmail.com   delgotjunk

Mon Apr 26, 2010 6:48 pm (PDT)

Just bought a yellow 2003 Reflex c/w abs, 525 miles on it in mint cosmetic condition. Also got the owners manual, service manual, original tool kit and a (2003) yellow XXXL Arai Signet with the sames miles on it which will be on Craigslist soon. I am a serious LD rider and for that hobby have an ST1300A but at 700 pounds something of a chore for running around town, hence the Reflex. The Reflex does not run and probably has not for a few years. It was stored in a non-climate controlled shed under a car tarp here in Northern Delaware. I know it needs a battery. Beyond that I plan on changing all the fluids and filters, running some Seafoam through the tank and carbs and crossing my fingers. Is there anything special about these scooters that I need to pay attention to or any parts that are prone to failure due to neglect? Thanks for your help, Michael

Re: New to me 2003 ABS

We bought a 2004 not running, which had been sitting for about 2 years.

Replaced the spark plug, did an oil change. We took starter fluid and
sprayed down into the carb, which fired it up but it would of course die
quickly. We did probably a 3x strength seafoam treatment in the tank,

We kept starting it with the fluid until it would run a little longer, and a
little longer. We took it down the road sputtering, but...it got better and
better and better. Runs like a champ now.

The seafoam ungummed the fuel filter, the carb jets, float bowl, everything,
but it WAS NOT a standard mixture recommendation, it was much stronger than
that.

Also siphoned out the extra strength mixture and diluted it with gas in a 5
gallon jug so it was more inline with recommended dosage. This after a few
rides down the road with it improving significantly each time.

If it's like ours was, that's about all you'll need to do. Seems the reflex
carb is forgiving.

Hope you have the same luck!

Joe
