Time For The Major 18,000 Mile Service

It's time for a major service on our K5 Reflex NSS250AS (about 18,000 miles).

For the most part, I will follow the recommeded service schedule in the Factory Service Manual. Additionally, I will be replacing all the fluids including coolant, brake lines, engine and final drive oils. New air filter and spark plug too.

I have a new drive belt and want to swap out the rollers as I suspect they will be worn. I am also considering either the K-mod, replacing the rollers with Dr. Pulley sliders (not sure which weight), or a combination of the two. No variator change anticipated at this point.

Any and all advice you offer is appreciated ... especially as it pertains to the roller replacement and/or the use of the Dr. Pulley sliders. I read the one write-up in the files section from Bruce B. regarding his experience using three 33g sliders.

FYI - this scoot sees about 60% city riding, 30 percent secondary road riding (cruising up to a steady 60 mph for longer stretches) with our motorcycle riding club and about 10% superslab riding up to 75 mph actual for several hours at a time (we avoid the superslabs where possible).

All of your suggestions and sharing of your maintenance and mods experiences are appreciated. I will be removing all of the tupperware and giving it a thorough detailing and tightening all of the bolts. Since I'll have the tupperware off, I really want to perform a top notch service on this great machine.

For an absolutely free upgrade, do the K-Mod. No cost (other than your labor) required and completely reversible.
I wouldn't even bother replacing the original rollers. I've got close to 50,000 miles split between two reflexes and have not seen any wearing of the rollers.

Not to put anyone down, but it seems the desire to mess with Honda's well designed mechanicals is a mistake. For example, I'm reading this post about major service and from what I see this Reflex is performing above and beyond my expectations. 75 MPH for short periods is OK but for hours at a time is proof that the drivetrain designed by Honda is perfect as is. With the tiny wheels on a Reflex I'm thinking 18K is probably equivilant to 36K on a motorcycle. These scooters can take a beating so the need to modify a great machine with aftermarket parts seems contradictory. So MY SUGGESTION is to replace stock drivetrain parts with original factory parts.

I'm going to pull mine down on Thursday, we're heading to Daytona Friday for
bike week and I want to blow out the dust, clean the breather for the cvt
and just look it over, peek the rear oil, etc. I might K-mod it for Daytona
:), lol. I swore I would take the SW this time but I don't want to do that
when my buddy will be on his reflex. But...nothing's stopping me from k
modding the flex at least for this trip. Your right, it's reversible so I
can live with it for the weekend even if I don't care for it in the end.
It's bound to make playing around in Daytona a little funner!!

Mod your flex?

Hi Willyjumpup
We really think we know what we are doing when we do the kmod, I did mine 33,000 miles ago and today it still runs great! I am certain I enjoy it more because I have "personalized" it. Honda built a great scooter but they are on a tight budget and they are building for the masses and the EPA.
It is your decision to keep yours stock but before you give the rest of us advice maybe you should show your credentials. How long have you had your flex and how many miles have you personally accumulated? If your experience level is greater than ours then your suggestions will carry a lot more weight. Just my opinion.
