Useful life of Honda Reflex?

At what point, would you say, are Reflexes going to lose their popularity? Now that they are not being made anymore. It seems like alot of people are selling thiers and going with someone newer. To me, Honda sold them for long enough that parts should not be a problem for some time but what is the thoughts on the board?

Well I plan to ride mine till it won't run anylonger, it's about to hit 42k
so the life expectancy of them is tremendous.

I probably won't rebuild the engine, it has paid for itself over and over in
gas savings and "fun". I got it for 1,500.00. It's an '01. As you said
parts availability is great. I think they still make something very similar
for other markets, someone else may know more about that. So, in essence I
think it's still being made (more or less)

Hi Marie,

I don't see the Reflex losing it's popularity any time soon for those who commute or do short local trips. In fact, that is what my Reflex is used for primarily. If fuel costs go back up, as some say they will, I think the Reflex will have a serge in buyers again.

However, I can understand how someone could simply grow tied of the Reflexs limitations. After all the bike is powered only by a 250cc engine (which is really a great engine for what it does and how well it holds up).

On long highway trips, while at freeway speeds, the Reflex is nearly at maximum output and flirting with the red line. On mountain roads steep inclines reduce acceleration(but declines are always fun-on anything)and can be a cause for concern, depending on traffic. These are the only limitations that I have run into with the Reflex, but I can live with them. Some folks can't and move up.

My friend Mike has moved up to the Silverwing, and I to have considered such a move, but I'm still having a blast with my 40,000 mile Reflex and can not wait for warmer weather to return to rack up some more cost effective miles.

I hope spring comes fast. I'm have terrible scooter withdrawal symptoms.

I have my '01 in winter storage. (Northern Wisconsin) I bought it 2 years ago when it had 3K miles, and it still runs like new. I have been looking at Silver Wings and Majestys - and am reluctant to part with the $$, especially since the Flex really fills my wants. They may run forever!

I don't see a slowdown or an indication of loss of compression or anything
in mine. I suspect by the time you guys up north get yours out for the
spring or summer I guess, I'll have tipped 50k on this one. Going for the
world record! :)

I also have a silverwing, I rode it during the 11 degree days we had down
here the last couple of weeks. You would certainly enjoy a silverwing
anyone considering one, go ride one, you won't regret it.

According to the poll which is still open, two riders have 50000 miles. One rider has indicated that his machine need new piston and rings ... at 75000 miles! That's a lot of scootin'!

I'm betting that a well-maintained machine could last most of a scootering lifetime. Hopefully, one of them will be mine.

Consider the Elite,(the scooter, not the rich and powerful) the Helix
and some of the other older scoots of 25 years or so vintage. They're
still around. Parts are not quite as easy to get as they once were,
but they still can be found. Plenty of poorly treated and ailng
scoots to cannibalize yet too. Also, some clone parts may present a
work around in some regards. If this cap and trade debacle actually
manages to come about and cause energy costs to "neccessarily
skyrocket", then watch for Honda to do a rethink of the US market for
a midsize maxi-scooter. Regretably, the Chinese are likely to be even
more aggressive with importing their cheap motor vehicles.

Actually, the Silverwing is not so much a move up as it is an
augmentation. It's just that with retirement a prospect sometime in
the next couple of years, I'd like to have a bike to take on extended
cross country road trips and be comfortable while doing it. The
Reflex will remain my primary ride. Most of my riding will likely continue to be generally local and the Reflex will best fill that role. Sporty, good looking, alot of fun to ride and economical too. That's the Reflex.

Mike B. (who is also looking forward to the coming riding season)

(Rochester Hills Michigan Double Dark Side Rider)
(2007 Honda NSS250S Reflex Sport "Scarlet")
(2006 Honda FSC600A Silverwing "Jester")
( Both with a car tire on the rear )
(and scooter rear tire on the front)

(2004 Honda NSS250S Reflex Sport "After Midnight") recently sold to my brother
(1987 Honda CN250 Helix not named) sold years ago
