I would use the correct Honda antifreeze from the dealer. Then you will know it is right. I made a mistake and used auto antifreeze that was not the correct type in my 02 Reflex. later my waterpump seal started to leak. I was told that may have been the reason.

I use prestone and it says:

silicate, phosphate, borate & nitrate free

Been using that for a long time now with no issues.

I think the bad thing is the silicates, but someone else can verify that.

winter storage?

I live in the Philadelphia area and decided to store my Reflex in my basement (walkout) this year. However, after storing it last month I started wondering if this is safe.
It's a pretty large basement and the bike is at the opposite end of the house from the furnace.
I googled and found that a lot of others store their bikes in the basement also. So, how about it?
I'd like to hear opinions from this Board.
I'd especially like to hear from Bruce.
I always find your input very thoughtful and on target.

Here's an opinion......
BruceK lives in an area of the country that offers year round riding. How would he know if it is safe?
I'd be more interested in hearing from people who actually have to store their bikes for the winter.

My husband used to store his Harley in the basement every winter. If it's in a heated environment, you can drain the gas tank to eliminate that concern.

If it were me, I either would not do it - or I would completely seal up the bike in plastic - taped shut. I think that is easier than draining both the fuel tank and the carb. While it might be arguable that the fuel tank could be sealed at the filler instead, what if some leaks out through the fuel lines and fuel pump?

There is no absolute way to know that gas fumes will not get ignited without sealing the source completely.

And I realize that many of us park vehicles in a garage that also contains a furnace and/or water heater, there is a lot more fresh air "leakage" to disperse the fumes...

I feel a little ignorant about what was in the manual for the earlier models as i never had the privilage to read it. You see, when i purchases my first one, it came with "less one owners manual", so i never had a chance at following what the manufacturer recomended in regards to Maintanance. Thanks

i hate to be a hypocrite but i live in Florida and mostly agree with Bruce it is a good idea to run your bike dry of fuel simply because it has an expiration date and with all the ethanol that's in today's fuel it goes bad much faster so if you don't want to rebuild you carb and drain the tank in spring i would recommend following his instructions however i don't think theres any safety risk every one i know up north stores there bikes inside

My battery is very low on my 2002 Reflex, and I need to recharge it. I
looked up chargers, but I'm confused by all the choices. It looks like
I might want a Optimate 3 charger/desulfurizer. But, I want to make
sure. Opinions?
