Re: Scooting the Ozarks Rally

Ed and Wichita Zeb, I hope you can both make it to the rally this time. Someone said that there were 22 states represented at the rally last year. People rode or trailered in from all directions. I think the ones who RODE farthest were the Helix riders from California. There is a "Roll Call" thread on the forum http://scoottheozarks.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=2010update&action=display&thread=700 where you can post where you are traveling from. If you are looking for someone to ride with, you might try posting there. Hope to see you in Eureka Springs in September!

A tip for tupperware replacement

I just finished replacing the large front piece of my 2002 Reflex. I had dropped it on both sides and it was cracked and beat up.

After I was all done, I had three screws left over because they wouldn't get any grip. It was at that point that I realized that I had overlooked the metal clips needed to secure the screws.

If you haven't done this you may not know that wherever a screw attaches to a plastic piece (terminates in the plastic) there needs to be a metal connector. In most cases this is done by having a small metal clip with holes to hold the screw slide onto the plastic, aligned with the hole in the plastic. When you order a replacement plastic piece, the clips aren't included (those as extra parts).

When I had the old piece off, I simply removed the clips and installed them in the corresponding places on the new piece. It wasn't until it was all back together that I realized that 2 of the clips on the piece I was replacing were missing. When my scooter got damaged two of the "pegs" snapped off, taking the clips with them. Since I didn't carefully go over the detailed parts diagram to account for all the clips that should have been there, I didn't notice until it was too late. Even if I had noticed, I would have been stalled out because I hadn't ordered extra clips.

So that's my tip: pay attention to the clips. I was going to say order extra when you order your super expensive tupperware (over $350, of which $88 was shipping(!), for my replacement parts) but I just checked and they are cost about 3 bucks a pop! They are called NUT, SPRING and NUT, CLIP and they come in at least a couple different sizes.

Fortunately the 2 that I lost are in pretty good spots. One on each side and between 4 other screws, so I'm going to let it go for now. Probably not worth 2 hours work to correct my mistake.

These clips are available at any hardware store. The ones for "sheet metal screws" (screws with pointed tips) ate called "tinnerman clips".

Tim, no I don't see one - I do see where it is attached though. I spent the morning looking at pictures on the internet of the sport model and it appears there is supposed to be a center stand. So I ordered a center stand and all the parts to put it on. While I was at it, I also ordered a Givi E30 with back rest and light assembly....
Oh yea, I also ordered the rest of the tools that are missing from my kit...

Thanks fellas
Russ
