Scooter Resource -- Electric Maxi

Vectrix Maxi-scooters

The Vectrix Corporation
is in the forefront of the battle against greenhouse accumulation with the production of their ZEV (zero emission vehicles). Vectrix aims to duplicate petrol-powered vehicles with a reliable electric power substitute.

First in line is the Vectrix Maxi-scooter that had its debut at the 2006 Milan Show and now is available in the United States for sale.

This is a two-wheeled vehicle that answers commuter's need for a clean, efficient, reliable and non-expensive city executive transportation. It is further envisioned that the Maxi-scooter will be the catalyst to the urban transportation revolution.

What makes the Maxi-scooter special?

First and foremost the Maxi-scooter is an advanced zero emission vehicle (ZEV), powered by a battery pack and apes a 400cc gas-powered motorcycle in performance and handling capabilities. A full charge of its NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries gives a range of 60 miles and can be recharged in two hours. The power of the Maxi-scooter comes from a universal type (a permanent magnet armature) brushless motor mounted directly on the rear wheel in an extremely designed aluminum swing arm.

The Maxi-scooter is a visual delight, although not much difference is observed from its petrol-powered counterpart. It also sports a large and comfortable seat similar to the more affluent models. The wheels of the Vectrix Maxi-scooter are immensely large in diameter, 14 inch at the front and 13 inch at the rear. And, like all electric two wheel vehicles, it emits no pollutants in the air and runs in almost total silence, except for the hiss observed in electric motors.

Vectrix performance evaluation put the Maxi-scooter well above the 400cc petrol powered motorcycle. The Maxi-scooter goes from 0 to 50 mph in just 6.8 seconds. Acceleration is swift provided by the 27 hp electric motor at 3,000 rpm, a performance that could only be reserved for licensed motorcycle riders. The top speed is placed at 60 mph The batteries are placed at the center of a muscled aluminum body and immediately under the seat is a storage space for the full-face helmet.

While the Maxi-scooter is relatively heavy at 210lbs due to its long wheelbase, it seems to favor stability. The Maxi-scooter has a very low center of gravity as aid to maneuverability, especially when cutting corners at high speeds. The weight distribution is pretty much even in its entire wheelbase. As an added feature, the machine has a slow reverse gear necessary in acute parking conditions.

How much does it cost?

The Maxi-scooter is not inexpensive. The price tag is in the $14,000 range. But, for those who want power, speed and zero emissions, this price tag will not deter hardcore buyers.

  1. There are so many movie producers, TV producers, actors, writers, etc. that require executive transportation. It’s important if you are an assistant booking a ride for your boss that you get him the best transportation there is.
